التاريخ : 28 / 7 / 2025
The activities of the "Enhancing the Efficiency of Electric Motors in Industrial Operations" project have come to a close. The project was implemented in cooperation with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), with the aim of laying the groundwork for developing a sustainable market for Energy Service Companies (ESCOs) in Egypt.

The final workshop included a series of technical and organizational sessions focusing on ways to improve the efficiency of electric motors in industrial facilities. It opened with a keynote speech delivered by Dr. Gehan Bayoumi, Deputy Representative of UNIDO, who provided a comprehensive overview of the project. The workshop saw active participation from the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA), represented on behalf of the CEO by Eng. Amgad El Hawihy, Head of the Studies, Research, and Testing Sector. He participated in the session titled “Policies and Governmental Cooperation”, where he explained the process through which NREA was selected as the responsible entity for qualifying ESCOs. This process included defining the required criteria, proposing potential candidate institutions, and evaluating them thoroughly until NREA was ultimately chosen. The Authority also took part in a session titled “The Energy Services Market in Egypt”, during which Eng. El Hawihy delivered a brief presentation on the qualification requirements for ESCOs and Measurement & Verification (M&V) service providers. He addressed the regulatory procedures, application process, and the expected timeline for announcing the launch of the qualification system.
