The New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) has released the 26th issue of its quarterly bulletin NREAmeter, which monitors the performance of renewable energy projects in Egypt during the fourth quarter of FY 2024/2025, and highlights the progress made towards expanding clean energy adoption.
According to the report, total installed renewable energy capacity reached approximately 8.6 GW, reflecting a 26% increase compared to the previous fiscal year. The installed capacities are distributed as follows: 2.8 GW hydro, 3 GW wind, and 2.8 GW solar and biomass. The bulletin also recorded 3.1 GW under construction, and an additional 13.8 GW under development, indicating growing momentum in renewable energy investments. Electricity generation from renewable sources during Q4 reached 7.9 TWh, marking a clear rise over the same period last year. The generation led to an estimated reduction of 4 million tons of CO₂ emissions, along with petroleum fuel savings exceeding 1.7 million toe (tonnes of oil equivalent). These results affirm NREA’s vital role in supporting Egypt’s energy diversification strategy and its transition
