التاريخ : 26 / 8 / 2025
Within the framework of fruitful cooperation between the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) hosted a specialized workshop entitled “Standards and Energy Efficiency Labels”,

as part of the second phase of the project on energy conservation and efficiency promotion, in collaboration with the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy and JICA. The workshop was attended by representatives of the relevant entities, including the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality, the General Organization for Export and Import Control, the Consumer Protection Agency, the Industrial Control Authority, as well as representatives from home appliance manufacturing companies. Eng. Ehab Ismail, CEO of NREA, welcomed the participants, noting that the workshop addressed the key challenges facing the Egyptian market in regulating the circulation of higher-efficiency home appliances, with the aim of maximizing electricity savings. A Japanese expert from JICA presented Japan’s experience in market surveillance mechanisms and compliance with standards, as well as the methodology for updating energy efficiency levels based on market studies, in order to promote knowledge-sharing and exchange of expertise between both sides. It is worth mentioning that NREA owns specialized laboratories for testing the energy efficiency of household appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers, electric water heaters, and fixed and variable-speed air conditioners. Since their establishment in 2005, more than 12,000 tests have been conducted, reflecting the Authority’s technical role in supporting the implementation of Egyptian standards and enhancing the performance of the local market. The workshop concluded with a set of recommendations, including the development of mechanisms for market surveillance, ensuring the verification and proper placement of energy efficiency labels, in order to promote the use of higher-efficiency home appliances.
